A. Mawson's Huts Replica Museum Commemorative numbered covers with Pictorial Postmark (2 December 2013)

B. Wendy Sharpe's "Cape Denison Summer 2012" postcard + a mint TAAF €1,45 Mawson's Huts stamp

C. The book: Wendy Sharpe's Antarctica (ISBN 9780957937420)

The Mawson's Huts Replica Museum in Hobart was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Hobart, Alderman Damon Thomas on December 2nd 2013. The date also marked the 102nd Anniversary of the departure of the SY Aurora from Hobart with the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE) 1911-14 led by Dr Douglas Mawson on board. To mark the occasion and the anniversary the Foundation prepared commemorative covers serviced with three AAT Centenary of the AAE 60¢ stamps, which were issued on 10 September 2013. The cachet on the left hand side of the covers was taken from a drawing by the renowned artist Peter Anderson, who also designed the pictorial commemorative postmark. Unfortunately, this postmark was not listed in the Stamp Bulletin and did not appear on the Australia Post website.

The philatelic information brochure, which is available below as a pdf, contains a description and photographs of the events of the day, as well as the items that are for sale. For those of you planning to visit the Replica Museum, I recommend the purchase of the 60-page booklet entitled 'Polar Pathways' from the Tasmanian Travel & Information Centre for $10.00; it will provide information about the people, the places & the surprising stories that link Hobart to the vast distant continent – Antarctica.

The following is the Mawson's Huts Replica Museum website, which provides a wealth of information about how the Museum was constructed and what it looks like on the inside, now it is completed.  Important and essential information such as opening hours, ticket prices and how to get there are also provided.  See: http://www.mawsons-huts-replica.org.au

To in-part compensate those of you who missed out on the TAAF/Wendy Sharpe covers, which sold out before Christmas, we are re-offering the 106-page soft-bound book entitled Wendy Sharpe's Antarctica, which was edited by David Jensen and published by the Mawson's Huts Foundation. The postcard featuring an image of a painting of the Huts by Wendy Sharpe plus the mint TAAF1,45 € Mawson's Huts stamp are now for sale at $10.00 the pair.

Also available below, as a pdf, is an order form for the numbered commemorative covers, the book, and the postcard + stamp. Money raised from the sale of these items goes towards the conservation of the Huts at Cape Denison.
